Same here. The rest of my order was still there, they would have sent me a full-price book overseas. Normal store price plus 30$ shipping & handling charges, what a bargain ...
Accidents do happen, but I would have expected an email notifying me of the changes to my order.
Isn't there case law in Canada where they have to honour their price shown?
Once it got on the bestseller list and sales went up dramatically, they can't plead ignorance. Not warning people is poor service too.
I blogged about the low price here (http://www.danielharan.com/2007/08/09/lisp-in-small-pieces-beats-harry-potter-in-bestseller-list/)... and really wanted my copies.
Yep, it's gone. And as far as I can tell I've received no email notice about it although I did previously receive one about the removal of the Monohan book from my order. However it's possible it got tagged as spam and in my quick perusal of the folder I overlooked it.
Sad we all lost the book, I did give them a dressing down in the email to customer service for not letting me know that they were removing the order and for not reversing the charge on the credit card. Maybe if they get enough protest emails they will issue an apology.
I just received an email explaining the cancellation and a code for $10 off a future order. They should have spoken sooner, but least they're doing something to make up for it.
They had at least 4 different books at that low price, of which at least LiSP hat been delivered to customers in the past. (I think I saw it on one of Xachs posts somewhere that a friend of his had received a copy at the low price.
As Xach reports (http://xach.livejournal.com/133661.html): "It's been $3.95 since mid-July, too."
Once the news hit the blogosphere and it went to No. 1, and people started ordering it from overseas, it became too much for them.
I received a mail too, telling me my order (a few hours before the price has been corrected) had been cancelled an I was offered a $10 gift.
Wtf am I to do with a gift at amazon.ca when I ordered from France !!
I too think Amazon should sell at the showed price, like your grocery around the corner... If they are so eager to analyze our sessions and order habits, they should have noticed how much $$ I spend at amazon.* and let the book go...
Anyway: thanks for the redditor who launched that good tip !!
